On September 18, 2009, Malaysia's first submarine, the KD Tunku Abdul Rahman, a Scorpene class diesel-electric submarine, reached home port for the first time, i.e. the Teluk Sepanggar RMN naval base, Sabah.
In a nutshell, the lowdown for the Scorpene is:
Displacment: 1,700 tons
Propulsion: Diesel-Electric
Speed: 20 knots submerged, 12 knots surfaced
Armament: 6 bow-mounted 533mm torpedo tubes, with provision for
torpedoes, missiles and mines
